DEFINITION OF APPLICATION SOFTWARE:
-> Application software is a program or it contains a group of programs designed to
perform specific user tasks. It is also called as end-user-software. It enables user to
perform specific data processing tasks on computer. There are two categories of
application software, pre-written software package and user-developed application
programs.

-> A number of powerful application software packages that do not require significant
programming knowledge have been developed. They are easy to learn and use when compared to
programming languages. An application program is written to meet the exact requirements of
the user.

-> A user application program may be written using one of these packages or a programming language.

The most important categories of a software packages available are as follows:
>> Database management software (ex: mysql, sql server),
>> Spreadsheet software (ex: Microsoft Excel),
>> Word processing (ex:Microsoft Word), desktop publishing(DTP),
and presentation software (ex: Microsoft Powerpoint),
>> Graphics software (ex:Adobe Photoshop),
>> Data communication software,
>> Statistical and operational research software.
